INTERSECTION an new exhibition at B&B Gallery

INTERSECTION
An exhibition of new works by Jonathan Wilkinson &
Florence Blanchard / October 17th – November 3rd
B&B are pleased to announce our latest exhibition, a collaboration between Jonathan Wilkinson (UK) and Florence Blanchard (FR) titled INTERSECTION.The show celebrates common interests and explores similarities between their studio practices, executed with their own individual style, approach and personality. Wilkinson explains – “We both work from found images and fragments of imagery which depict the modern built environment, as well vehicles and objects that inhabit such a landscape.” Blanchard agrees – “Our artworks have independently evolved towards painting dreamy situations inspired by our own experiences, tinted with an uncertainty of what the future holds. INTERSECTION felt like the perfect outlet to bring our individual world’s together as a way of creating a broader narrative based on these shared themes.” Iconic structures, vehicles and architecture sit alongside animals and abstract forms inhabiting an imagined world, situated somewhere between an American film set and a science-fiction comic book based in suburban Yorkshire. We look forward to seeing you there.

Bunny In Space – Letter press trading cards

I’ve just received a package with the work I did for Asuka Ohsawa‘s letter press trading cards collaborative project: Bunny In Space. Brooklyn based Asuka invited international artists to design each card (4.5 X 3.25 in.), and the card narratives were constructed in the manner of Exquisite Corpse. The original images and texts were hand-printed via letterpress from polymer plates on 2-ply museum board by Asuka.  Each set comes with its own cool hand-folded paper case and homemade bubble gum. All this in a super limited edition of 40. How nice is that?

If you are in New York, the set of cards is currently exhibited at The Center For Book Arts as part of the Featured Artist Project: 2012 Workspace Artists in Residence

The show will be up until June 29th.

Arthur Lipsett (13 May 1936 – May 1, 1986) was a Canadian avant-garde director of short experimental films who worked for the National Film Board of Canada. His first film Very Nice, Very Nice – a 7 min long piece – was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Short Subject, Live Action Subjects in 1962. Despite not winning the Oscar, this film brought Lipsett considerable praise from critics and directors. Stanley Kubrick was one of Lipsett’s fans, and asked him to create a trailer for his upcoming movie Dr. Strangelove. Lipsett declined Kubrick’s offer. Kubrick went on to direct the trailer himself; however, Lipsett’s influence on Kubrick is clearly visible when watching the trailer.
